Technical theatre certificate: Week two

General Wash

Today we learnt how to do a general wash. A wash is a general fill of light and colour evenly across the stage through the use of lighting fixtures typically, softer lights cast from Fresnel lamps, and coloured using coloured lighting gels. It's also known as a Fill.

G clamps:

Today we was getting familiar with G clamps, while using the lights. A G clamp is a type of clamp device typically used to hold wood or metal workpiece, and often used in, but are not limited to, carpentry and welding. However it is very useful to hold up big heavy lights as it makes sure that it’s secure into the rigg and that it will not come loose, even if it did come loose it wouldn’t make a difference because we have the safety chains to make sure that the lights won’t crash and hit anything or anyone. Otherwise the company can get sued. This would be very bad as the company will lose a lot of money and will so also lose business as people will not think it’s safe to come to the theatre.

 What we did today:

Today’s lesson was cut short. So we wasn’t able to do much, however we was given a song called “relight my fire” and we have to add lights to this song when necessary and work out a light pattern and how we would like it to look and what lights would like on different beats and whether there would be a consistent light in the background along with different colours.
