Improvising skills and group bonding
First day: improvising skills and group bonding
10th September 2018
What skills we need to gain to become professional and successful performers:
- Confidence:
As a performer you will need to be able to stand in front of people and be confident and be prepared to be judged by people that are watching you and take their criticism as learning opportunities to become better performers and to use your individuality to your strengths instead of weaknesses. This will help with your confidence as you as a performer need to feel comfortable in your own skin.
- Awareness:
Awareness has many perspectives, such as your space awareness also where you are standing to make sure the audience is able to here you and that you project your voice. Being aware of the performers around you and making sure you bounce off of each other, instead of dragging the other performer down to get cheap laughs ( Do Not Do).
- Creativity
Being creative is very important while performing to make sure that your performance does not drag and it has everyone at the edge of their sits at all time. The phrase “think out size of the box” is a huge part of creativity as it helps the audience understand your character more and understand you as a performer. Having a good train of thought is also very helpful during this process.
RULES:
- Accept
- Don’t block
- Don’t put down
These rules are very important as being in a performance is a big group activity and being in a group means you have to have team work, making another actor look bad to boost yourself up is not a good thing to do. Once again ( don’t do stuff for cheap laughs) you don’t look good by making others look bad.
Group activities... with their meanings:
Today was our first day so we need a load of group activities so that we will feel comfortable getting to know each other and being able to trust one an other. This way this will make us better performers by having good communication.
One of the activities we did today was that we had partnered up and name ourselves A and B first one of us had to follow the others hand close to our faces. This was a trust excerise as we are a class of 32 meaning the room was very crowded and we had to trust that our partners would not let us bump into anything or anyone. This helped us gain trust for one another and also get to know each other in the meanwhile. Another group activity that we did was starting your sentence with the last letter of your partners sentence, this helped us widen our vocabulary as being performers reading is a big part of it and coming up with your own monologues. You wouldn’t want them to be boring so improving your vocabulary is very useful.
