Working on vowels and breathing
Day four: Working on our vowels and breathing skills
13th September 2018
Breathing activity and meditation in acting:
Today we all laid down on the floor. Laying on our backs, letting our head and shoulders sink into the floor and feel fully relaxed. Relaxing the muscles in our toes, and releasing the stress from my body. What you need to do to get into this exercise is solely give yourself to the procedure. This makes us better creatives. This makes us better as breathing and relaxing helps sooth of them I am unable to prepare us for the next project that we may have to do.
Why meditation and breathing is a big part of Acting:
Breathing’s importance..
Breath control exercise for actors & actresses. Breath control is so important for performers, whether they’re in rehearsal, onstage, or somewhere in between. However practicing skills to improve breath control technique can vastly improve your speaking abilities.
Meditation’s importance..
Meditation has been a symbol for a long time of being a way to be calm and concentration. Meditation also helps a performer visualise the character they want to turn into and this helps them express the character in the way that they see the character to act.
Vowel work...
Some of the vowel sounds we worked on was OO OH ORE. Avoid glottals ( sounding like a sea lion). But beware of inhibited. Aware of how we sound and that we are not shy to express how we are feeling through the way we pronounce words and perform on stage.
What not to do
- Glottal
- Flat
- Words being telescoped
Consonants work...
Some of the consonants that we worked on was CG, we did the consonants in 3 parts which is CG and LNDT along with MPB. Working on all theses different Consonants helps with our vocabulary it helps us to pronounce words properly.
- Energy through the lines
- Also understanding the lines so that the audience understands what you are saying.
*practise work on the voice*
Poem reading
Remember to be truthful to yourself when you re reading poems, do not read it the way you think it should be read. Read it as yourself and let yourself come through. Be truthful in the moment.
Be truthful to whatever you are doing, the audience can tell when you are not being truthful.
